Last Day in Portugal - Sunday

Sunday, February 22, 2009

Here we sit for our final hours in Lisboa at our hostel waiting for 9 pm so we can catch our cab to the bus station. Our host, Volter, has been so kind to us…. He is going to call us a cab and make sure the driver knows for sure where to take us.

We packed our bags this morning, put them in the store room and after breakfast headed to the Lisbon Cathedral for Sunday Mass. We were early so after taking photos etc of a very old and beautiful church we backtracked a wee bit back to St. Anthony of Padua church for an earlier Mass. Back to the hostel and then off to find the Metro… this we have learned to use quite well and enjoy finding our way about on its system… much better than the bus or trams. We went to see the Museum of Colouste Gulbenkian . The first building was all modern art which we did not care for but after a walk in the gardens we found the building that has many paintings by famous people such as Manet, Renor, Gainsburough and Rembrandt…. And many other beautiful works of art. These we enjoyed very much. They even had some statues by Rodin….. back to our hostel by 3.. purchased some pizza that will do us for a late lunch and early dinner….. an now we are busy on our computers while passing time. We will be missing the excitment tomorrow night as its time for lent and they will have a big festival this week.

Am going to close this and will write you more from Spain.
