March 19th A Day to Relax in Town

Thursday, March 19, 2009 Rest Day
Today we slept in a bit before having the last of our strawberry and bread For breakfast. We have gotten use to having our hot tap water coffee but look forward to having regular coffee one day soon.
The desk clerk was surprised when we asked for directions to the local cemetery, but as we grew up across from one we often find it interesting to explore and read the markers in old cemeteries. It only took us about 15 minutes to walk and we were rewarded with many interesting markers and grave decorations. What was really interesting was that we found many of the sites (all the graves are above ground & many “stone boxes” were marked as Family Plots) had been emptied and were marked as “for sale” because of abandonment by the owners.
Coming back into the center of town we headed over to check out the la petite market…. Much smaller than the Sunday Market… this one did not have any of the antique furniture and only about half of the tables full of sale items. But we did find our bananas and also bought some yummy honey & nut Nougat to eat a little at a time for deserts. Our best find was almond nuts. We have been buying them at the super market and they are very expensive. We purchased a small bag for what we thought was a high price but found that it was only 1.20 euro… Martha then handed the man a 10 euro bill and he gave us back a large bag of nuts that should last us for quite a while. We have been wishing that we had brought more nuts from home.
Back to the hotel for some computer time….. then off again to follow
The Sorgue River path as it flows into town. This was a lovely walk along side a small road as it followed the meanderiing river past waterfront homes with benches to sit and watch the water and the ducks. Think that we spent about an hour or so just enjoying the whole area thinking how neat it would be to spend a month here every spring… but o’well… that’s called an impossible dream but fun to think about.
We checked out several restaurants on our way back as possible dinner places but … looking at the prices…. I said, you know what… I would just love to find somewhere that has a big piece of Quiche and make a meal of that. So probably about 7 we will wander out and see what strikes our fancy for an evening meal.
Hope that you enjoyed the picture file that I sent yesterday. The funny white tub like item …. For those of you who have not been to Europe..is a toilet that you run across every so often… just wanted to share with you another of the funny things in Europe.
Yes, this is a rest day and we have taken time during this day to relax and read our books…. Tomorrow we will again be off in the car for another adventure in the land of Provence France............
