Monday - St Francesco Church, II campo, Civico center

Our last full day in Siena... I was up at 8 AM.. Martha said that I slept right through a storm that would wake the dead about 3 AM. but this morning it was dry so after a good breakfast she and I headed out to catch a bus that would take us to the train station where we could purchase our tickets for Cortona, Assisi, Rome and Naples. At the train station area we found an electronic store where Martha purchased a phone that we should be able to use here in Italy. The French phones still work but are expensive to use in Italy and we can not figure out how to add more time to them. It's 5:30 right now and the bells of St Catherine are ringing away right outside our window. Will miss them when we are gone as they are so pretty and ring many Times during the day, but thankfully not late at night. Martha and I were back early so are using this time while we wait for Bonnie and Jane to pack our bags for tomorrow and catch up on photos and journals.

Leaving the apartment Martha and I set out to find the Church of Saint Francesco that is on the other side of Siena. We did find it but the church closes from noon to 3:30. We walked around to the area on the side and found a large group of young people celebrating confirmation or something... All had beautiful wreaths circling their heads. Took lots of pictures of the area but as of right now have no plans to go back tonight when the church would be open. Martha purchased us some ice cream cones...which we really enjoyed while walking...found a plaza where Martha found the internet at Logg Mercanzia Plaza..... Picture time and then she posted them on Facebook .

On we went headed for the compo.....soon we arrived at the compo, where they have the big horse races a couple of times a year. Saw the Civico center but decided not to tour the museum that they have but instead made our way around the Il campo again taking lots of pictures ... The inside area was full of people which made some great people watching time for us as we found ourselves a table under an umbrella to enjoy a Grande cup of wonderful cappuccino. All of a sudden down came the rain....sure was a fast way to clear out the center of the campo...people scattered like ants.. We were dry under our big umbrella and waited out the rain before making our way back to the apartment. So here we are waiting for Bonnie and Jane to return. Plans for this evening call for dinner out, then playing some cards while we finish up the bottle of wine from last night.
