Sunday, February 15th Heathrow
Yesterday was such a great day of rest for us and having a secure wireless internet to use we both updated our banking and credit card accounts beside talking to our family & friends. It was also a good day to drink a lot of water as we tend to not do much of this when were not sure just where the next pit stop will be. The only time we went out yesterday was to walk down to the local Subway shop to buy salads for supper. Even had time to open my book and read some tonight before turning off the lights.
Woke at 6 AM, checked our computers for emails that might have come in overnight as we both posted new blogs before going to bed. Finished our packing and by 7 AM we were downstairs for breakfast of eggs, ham and coffee. Bidding goodbye to our host, Michael, we headed out to catch our bus back to Heathrow Airport where we picked up our stored luggage, rented a car and drove off to Stratford On Avon, our destination for today. Got turned around getting out of the airport but were soon on our way. I am so very glad that Martha is doing all of the driving. My job is to navigate and to call out
“OVER” when she gets to close to the curb on the far left side of the road. It is so hard to drive in the left side of the road, as I said am so glad that Martha is doing the driving.
After getting directions a couple of times, the last one had us follow him, we arrived at our Youth International Hostel by noon. Checked in and left to see Warwick Castle.
Found the Castle but parking was a bit harder to come by. We prevailed and soon were inside the castle walls. What an enormous medieval structure it is…… had a great time exploring all the rooms within the walls. Many had setting with scenes depicting many famous real life people set in the times that they lived in addition to the medieval settings in another area of the castle. We climbed up to the mound for grand view of the castle grounds. And we did do the tower walks and rampart… this included 530 steps and was not for the faint of heart. I actually made it all the way to the top without incident, but did have to stop and catch my breath several times, but coming down I slipped on a step and did a small fall…. No worry … I have a sore toe but am otherwise fine and that is because I am wearing sandals and have no protection on the front of my feet. All over the grounds actors where doing medieval activities which were fun to watch. Today has been a cloudy damp day so before 4 we were on our way, only had to ask directions once and found that we were going the wrong way, we were on our way back to the hostel.
No internet tonight has it cost more than we wish to pay (we were spoiled by having it free for 2 nights) so called home to let them know that we had arrived and are spending our free time working on our journals and pictures so we can post them when we get back to the airport tomorrow.
Dinner tonight was purchased here at the Hostel, Warwickshire Beef Stew with broccoli and pudding. For desert we decided to share the Dark Chocolate Hershey Bar that I have been carrying with me from Florida. Every time I have offered to share it, Martha says NO…. so I put it back in my bag…. But tonight we finally had a bit of chocolate….. We have a lot of families here at our hostel, many with small children, so its been quite noisy tonight here in the game room where we have set up our computers. When we checked in we found only one room mate and from the gear assume female but have not been upstairs to check lately so not sure what we will find when we venture upstairs. So long for now will write more tomorrow.
