Tuesday, February 24, 2009 Madrid Spain
We all four slept in a bit today… it was actually almost 8:30, of course we lost an hour when we came into Spain so our bodies have not quite adjusted to the change in time. It is now 6 hours later than it is in Florida.
We decided to be “Travelers” and not “Tourist” today and find our way around in Madrid. We made use of the Metro (subway)… we like it so much better than street buses and are getting good at making our way around in the big cities. After finding the bus station and finding out about our bus for Granda tomorrow we made our way back to the Metro and found our way to the great Spanish Museum “The Prada” The line for tickets was long and for the first time we were not able to get Senior rates for entry. We spent two hours wandering the halls studying all the art by so many famous painters. The painting that I liked the best however was done by a Flemish painter from the early 1600. His name is David Teniers, the Younger and the painting was called Galeria Del Airchidaque. I research it on my computer when we got back to the hostel and was able to copy and paste it into my word documents. Of course no photos were allowed inside the museum.
From the Prada we walked, elbows linked – for safety reasons, all the way back to our Hostel where we are again working on our computers. We do so enjoy having the ability to download our photos and do our journals for the day. And yes, we take pictures of everything.. tickets & brochures included as we have limited space in our bags so we carry no extra paper work from place to place. Along the way home we found a small grocery store & purchased 2 yogurts to share. Earlier in the day we had done the same with bananas, which we ate just before going into the Prada.
I hope that all of you are also checking Martha’s blog site as she has many pictures and is a far better writer than I. We are sitting up on a outside deck at the top of the building right now….. we have a group of a dozen or so students sitting down at the other end… all chatting in a foreign language.
Tonight we are going to find a small food cafeteria for dinner before heading off to bed. I plan to post this blog tonight… but if not will do it in the morning before we leave for Granda.
