Finding the Art and Bull in Madrid

Monday March 2, 2009 Madrid Spain
We ended up being the only guest in our room made for 6. We were having such a good time on our computers all of a sudden we realized it was 10 pm We slept good except early this morning we had several taxi cabs honking their horns for early morning travel people…yes, we are right upstairs from the front door…. But after a few times this too quieted down and we slept in until 9 AM before going down for breakfast.
By 10:30 we had walked to the “Centro de Arte Reina Sofia” It was a former large hospital but the current Queen Sofia has turned it into a large art museum. The largest draw being Pablo Picasso’s art, especially his famous “Guernica” which is a modern art Expression of the damage that war can do. It was done during the Spanish Civil War in 1937. Salvador Dali also has a large display of his art done during the 1930’s…..I have never seen his museum in St. Pete but did enjoy his work in Madrid. A short walk away we found the huge Madrid Train Station… walked inside to find a wonderful park like inside garden area…where we decided to take time for a picnic lunch.

Inside the train station we also found a Metro station … we do like using the Metro…. Got tickets and we were off to find the famous Madrid Bull Ring.
After changing at only one station we walked out of the metro station and viola…. Right in front of us stood a Huge Bull Ring….. Martha had thought that we would have to walk a bit to find it so she was really surprised at finding it right in front of the metro station. She is so good at finding things and getting us around. Am sure that on my own I would not have seen nearly so many wonderful things here in Spain.

After lots of pictures and a stop in the nearby restaurant that has many Bull Heads mounted on their walls we were back on the metro on the way to our hostel. Found the grocery store from last night and purchased more fruits and salads to go with our meat & noodle dinner we are fixing for ourselves tonight in the hostel kitchen. Seems like I am eating a lot more Carbs than usual but my blood sugar is staying just below 100 which is good. I have only found it higher a couple of times where I have had to take some medicine To lower it. Anyway …wondering about our weight… I got into my big suitcase and pulled out the size 6 Levis that I had brought with me… determined to get back to where I could wear them again. I had tried them on just before we left Florida and I had to lay on the bed to zip them…… I can now zip them up without laying on the bed. Not very loose but definitely wearable. Since we are both eating about the same things we were both very happy to see some progress made on the weigh issue. Of course we are doing lots and lots of walking and stair climbing so am sure that is helping also. As a side note I hope that you are also checking on Marthajans.blogspot.com as she is posting many pictures where I only do a few..her blog is very good to read also.
Will post this for today as we Will not be doing much tonight except spending time together working on our computers… we do have fun doing this and it’s good quality time spent together that counts. Also it's nice that we do not have to look for an English newspaper... we just catch the news on the computer.
