Today has been a good day of rest. We went out this morning and then tonight we braved the light rain to find a Mass. We were so surprised when we started down the street to find it full of people… tonight is a festival, it’s an Andalusia celebration of some sorts… and of course it’s a Saturday night. We made our way to the Cathedral and found that the Mass did not start for almost another hour and would be held in a smaller chapel in the rear of the church so thought we’d just walk around to see what door we would be going in……….. guess what… we found a Mass in progress… went in and sat down in the back… it was a wedding !!
But it was still a Mass so we decided to Crash the Wedding –
At communion Martha said “You go ahead up and get communion, I won’t go because I have a backpack on” Okay up I went in my sweatshirt and bluejeans… everyone was so dressed up that I almost turned around and went back to my seat but I didn’t….. Just as it was my turn they ran out of hosts and the priest had to go back to the altar for more while I stood there next to this well dressed man in a suit… the photographer snapped about 5 pictures while I was standing there….bet they will wonder who this person is that crashed their wedding.
Because we planned to get up early in the morning, the plan was to get to the bus station before the 10 AM bus left for Madrid, we went upstairs and were in bed just before all the young kids left for a night on the town. Four of the girls came back before 2 AM….. someone’s phone or an alarm went off about 5 and Michael strolled in at 5:30 in the morning…..needless to say by 6:00 we were up and dressed. Went down to use the internet and have some breakfast before leaving a little after seven. God was so good to us…….
It was not raining, so we had a dry 10 minute walk to the plaza pulling our bags…..One Lone Taxi sat at the Plaza just waiting for us, as I said God was good to us as we also made the 8 AM bus to Madrid at Senior prices. It was a 5 hour trip but we enjoyed a half full bus… 2 seats each to stretch out on …and a lot of beautiful Spanish countryside.
Settled back into our Hostel… did some much needed laundry, ate a lunch of
Canned tuna & veggys with cheese wedges and a huge spoonful each of Skippy Chunky Peanut Butter that we had found in Granada. Laundry done we set out on the city streets to find familiar places from 4 nights ago. The Sol Plaza and Major Plaza where lots of interesting fun things were happening… so many people out & about enjoying a Sunday afternoon.. lots of families along with so many young people. Saw many musical groups performing and street people doing all sorts of fun things so that people would pay them money to perform. A new place found, the Opera House and then we spotted the Golden Arches so familiar to us… guess where we will pick up a really cheap dinner (thanks to the $1 menu, yes they even have that over here )…. Just a side note (of interest to some of my readers)
Smoking is really prohibited in most public places over here and has not been a problem for us. This hostel only permits it in the big lounge and on the outside terrace. Will close this and post now before I go upstairs.
