Saturday - Day trip to San Gimignano

It's been a long day...so think I will start this for now and finish posting tomorrow. It's actually Sunday, Martha and I just made it back before the hard rain started so guess this is a good time to write about Saturday. I was up by 7 AM.. Seems kite I am always first to bed and first up...but that is how my inner clock works best. Usually Martha follows me in an hour or so then it's several more hours before Bonnie and Jane are up which means we normally don't get out of the apartment before 10:30. Ok when you read strange words just remember my apple seems to be changing words on me and it's hard to change them so am going to stop trying.

Just before eleven we were on our way walking to the bus station, which once we knew our way, was not that far away, but all uphill. We purchased our tickets, both ways, for the blue bus. Trip gave us great views of the Italian countryside that had us snapping pictures most of the trip. After almost 2 hours we arrived at the gate to San Gimignano. Walking into this old hill town and seeing the walls and towers, steps and arches, ahead of us found us hard to walk because we were snapping so many photos. We all enjoyed a ice cream treat as none of us had had lunch..by 4 Martha and I were ready to head back to Siena but Bonnie and Jane elected to spend more time exploring the old city. Off we went to find our blue bus which should be due soon. Well finally a yellow bus came, the driver said yes it was going to Siena..so we and about a thousand kids piled into the bus...Martha was the last one in the door. When we got into the town of Poggibonsa the driver told us all to get off and wait for the blue bus which would be along soon. About 10, English speaking people waited with us for this next bus which did finally come and brought us back to Siena by about 7:30... A long ride home..but a very fun day. We had bought sandwiches to eat before starting our trip down and had another ice cream while waiting for the second bus....had to purchase something as we were using the chairs that belonged to the bar across the street from the bus stop.

Back to our apartment...beginning to find our way around. Bonnie and Jane showed up about 9 PM..... I was tired and soon was down for the night...Martha was busy on her computer, so it was just our two morning sleepers who went off in search of night time excitement ...they found a huge party going on over below St Catherine's church. Large screens to view the event, music, food and wine...party time with a capital P. Me I slept thru it all.. But I am the only one of us without a cold.....so far.... Piu tardi
