Tuesday- Walk Rue Mouffetard and the Marais Areas

Up at 6 AM after a good night sleep. By 10:30 we were all out the door for a day of walking several different areas of Paris. When I was here in 2009 with Martha we had stayed in the Latin Quarter on Rue Mouffetard. This was within walking distance from where we are now staying. I enjoyed remembering the way to walk as 5 years ago we had walked Pass the Pantheon on our many trips to see things....soon we were at the top of Rue Mouffetard. Down we went by all the little shops and markets that line this narrow street. This is also the street that Julia Childs, the famous cook, shopped on when she lived in Paris. Bonnie purchased some great bread and cheese that we shared later in a park. At the base of the street was the church Eglise Saint Medard. It was unlocked so we were able to view it.

On to the metro for a ride over to Isle Saint Louis...crossing the Seine River we visited The Village of St Paul where we saw a wall made of stone from renments of the Bastille. Went into several other churches and a wonderful park where we sat and enjoyed the beautiful sunshine ate our bread and cheese while watching all the young people Out at noontime for a break from work or schools. Also on the edge of this park was the home of Victor Hugo. Walking back over to Notre Dame we saw the huge official Marie, city hall, for the city of Paris. After being at Notre Dame early in the morning with nobody around it was so different today with the huge groups of people waiting to get in to tour the church.

By the time we returned home we had been out for 5 hours and according to Bonnie's pedometer we had walked 5.5 miles. Had a great put together at home dinner tonight ending with bread, cheese, wine and chocolate. Soon it will be time to settle down for the night.
