Up today by 8 AM... Martha and Bonnie went out to find homes lived in by Hemingway, Gertrude Stein, and other artist who lived in Paris during the roaring twenty's..... I stayed home as knew they were going to be doing a lot of fast walking. Was glad of my choice when I got an early morning, 4 AM in Florida, Skype call from Phil. Also I started putting together my things as tomorrow we will be leaving France on the train for Italy.
Soon Martha was back to pick me up...she seems to have no problems climbing the 77 steps to our apartment several times a day...myself..I try to limit it to two times a day. Anyway we were off to find Saint Sulpice where I had seen the Rosé Line and the Astromicial clock. That were both featured in the Angels and Demons book. They also have a beautiful organ where sometimes you can hear a concert but they no longer let you go up to the organ balcony to view it up close. Bonnie caught up with us while we were in this church. So we walked together to find the little restaurant, ST Catherine's where we were to meet Martha's friends Judy and Pete from her Ollie group in California.
We enjoyed a lovely lunch with them while Bonnie went ahead to our next stop as she wanted to spend more time in our next museum than we would.
We said our goodbyes to Judy and Pete then off we went to catch up with Bonnie... along the way Martha spotted a sign that said "Compostelle2000". It was the tiny office where pilgrims traveling to San Compostela in Spain can designate this as a starting spot and receive their book, stamp and shell. I pointed to the map and said that I had followed the trail last year from St John Pied-de-Port by bicycle to the Cathedral of Santiago Compostela. Must admit that I did not tell him that it was my stationary bike at home...but it would have been to hard to translate...anyway he opened his little box and gave me a copy of the stamp that they give people when they start from Paris. I was thrilled... As I did do the journey and it took me almost a full year to complete the 427 Miles.
Soon we were at the Hotel Carnovalet which is a free museum that is all about the history of Paris. Inside we found Miss Bonnie with her headphone for her audio guide. I was happy to find the painting by Henri Gervex that I had been looking for. A stop at Starbucks for a coffee treat and soon we were on our way back to the apartment to wait for Jane to return from England. Plan for tonight, our last night in Paris, is a nice dinner out and then to take a ride on the river Seine to view everything from the rivers point of view.
